Posted by Feigelson, Eric at October 27. 2013

astro.R was initiated and is moderated by Aaron Robotham at the ICRAR radio astronomy group at the University of Western Australia.  It currently has 159 members and active discussion on various issues relating the R statistical software environment to astronomy.  Many topics are covered: plotting options (e.g. constructing the solar Msymbol), fitting Sersic profiles to galaxy images, data mining and time series capabilities, R/CRAN packages for astronomy, and more.  Aaron is giving a series of lectures on Bayesian Astronomy with R with slides available here.  ASAIP members who use R are encouraged to join and participate in astro.R discussions.
