229th American Astronomical Society meeting: astrostatistics session

The large winter AAS meeting held near Dallas TX will have two events relevant to astrostatisics. First, a session entitled 'Flexible Multi-dimensional modeling of complex data in astonomy) on Wednesday January 4. The session presents tutorials based on the Sherpa-Python and IRIS tools using iPython notebooks developed by the Chandra X-ray Observatory.Details at https://hea-www.harvard.edu/AstroStat/aas229_2017/modeling_ws/. Second, a Special Session entitled "Statistical, Mathematical and Computational Methods for Astronomy (ASTRO): SAMSI 2016-17. Speakers include: Jessi Cisewski (Yale, stat), Jeff Jewel (JPL, astro), Ashish Mahabal (CalTech, astro). Jogesh Babu (Penn State, stat) will introduce the SAMSI program.
