Data Visualization and Exploration in the LSST Era

Astronomy is at a crossroads and active researchers in the field are facing a changing landscape of best practices driven by the emergence of Big Data. This three-day workshop, at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, will help establish and disseminate a framework for thes new practices through our multi-disciplinary research group that includes data visualization experts, cosmologists, astronomers, and data scientistss. This workshop will bring together local and external experts from DES, LSST, SPT, yt, data science, and cosmology to discuss strategies and methods for data visualization and exploration with the help of current cloud and container technologies. The goal of this workshop is to share experiences and provide hands on mini tutorials on the many topics involved such as containers, cloud computing, visualization, machine learning, among others.
