International Astrostatistics Association

The International Astrostatistics Association (IAA) is a non-profit organization for astronomers, statisticians, information scientists and others having an interest in astrostatistics. It was formed in August 2012, replacing the former ISI astrostatistics Network started in January 2010. It is an independent association, but is affiliated with the International Statistical Institute (ISI). The President of the IAA is Joseph Hilbe. The IAA has a new Web address: http://iaa.mi.oa-brera.inaf.it. See the April 2016 Newsletter for other organizational changes.

The Cosmostatistics Initiative: COIN

The Cosmostatistics Initiative (COIN), an international working group built under the auspices of the International Astrostatistics Association (IAA), aims to create an interdisciplinary environment where collaborations between astronomers, statisticians and machine learning experts can flourish. COIN is designed to promote the development of a new family of tools for data exploration in astrophysics and cosmology. The group is lead by Rafael S. de Souza and researchers willing to join are welcomed to contact him at rafael.2706@gmail.com.
